An unprecedented collaboration of HBO and the Institute of Medicine (IOM), in association with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), “The Weight of the Nation” takes an unflinching look at the severity of our nation’s obesity crisis and its crippling effects on our health care system.
At the conclusion of the film screenings in August, “Fit 2 Live” at Laman! will continue as a once-a-month series the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm. Patrons will enjoy learning about nutrition, exercise options, healthy grocery choices, meal planning and more.
Fit 2 Live is an initiative created by the City of North Little Rock and the North Little Rock School District in 2009 “to address the obesity epidemic in our city and to make the healthy choice the easy choice for our residents.”
Says Rhodes, “We are excited to embark on this partnership with Laman Library. It is a win-win for the city and its residents. What better place to learn about making healthier choices in our lives, than the public library.”
The William F. Laman Public Library System, founded in 1946 and composed of a main library at 2801 Orange Street in North Little Rock and a branch library at 506 Main Street in Argenta, is the official library system of North Little Rock. Although the William F. Laman Public Library System is independent from other library systems in central Arkansas, anyone living in Pulaski County may freely obtain a library card through the William F. Laman Public Library System. For more information, visit www.lamanlibrary.org.
