Otter Tales (Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:30 AM – 10:50 AM @ EdZoocation Station at the Maryland Wilderness Outpost) – Participants enjoy listening to and participating in active, themed stories and singing along to familiar songs with new animal-related lyrics. A brief discussion about the real adaptations, behaviors and habitats of the animals featured will follow each tale or song.
Wilderness Puppet Theatre (Tuesday and Thursday, 10:30 AM – 10:50 AM @ EdZoocation Station at Maryland Wilderness Outpost) – Participants enjoy watching and listening to themed puppet shows. While entertaining, the shows are primarily designed to educate young visitors about basic ecological and zoo husbandry principles.
Eco-Chats (Monday – Friday, 11:45 AM – 12:00 PM @ Creature Encounters in Flocker’s Field under the EdZOOcation Station Canopy) – Utilizing animal artifacts and interactive techniques, presenters discuss selected subtopics of the main weekly education theme.
Ecological Adventures (Monday – Friday, 12:00 – 1:30 PM@ Creature Encounters) – School-aged visitors participate in a series of themed educational games and activities set up on Flocker’s Field behind Creature Encounters. The activities expand upon the concepts covered in the daily Eco-Chats and allow participants to actively explore the survival adaptations, ecological needs, conservation issues and behavioral profiles of our Zoo animals. Parents and chaperones should plan for these activities to take a maximum of 15 to 20 minutes to complete.
